Orlando Scuba Diving - Open Water Diver CD Rom Course

Diving with Dayo Scuba, Orlando, Florida - Crystal River - Three Sisters & King's Bay - 5 Feb 2006

We offer Open Water Certifications from NAUI, PADI, SDI, and IANTD and do Referrals from all the major organizations.

To dive anywhere in the world, you will need an Open Water Certification from a credible Diving Organization.  This certification is your TICKET to another world; the underwater world, and experiences and adventures you will remember all your life.  Scuba Diving in Orlando is done year round, so it is a great place to learn.

Since everyone taking the Open Water Diver course is brand new at diving, and does not yet own any gear, we offer this course without requiring you to own any gear.  This means we include the academic package (CD Rom or Online), academic review & test, 2 to 3 days of diving (confined/pool and 4 to 5 dives), use of gear*, regulator, wet suit, tanks, pictures (dive photos and for the certification card), and the certification card. We have lots of fins, masks, booties, and weight belts should you not want to travel here with that basic gear. What we do not include is travel to/from the dive sites, dive site fees ($5 to $35), food and lodging.

     * We do carry a lot of rental equipment, booties, wetsuits, etc.. but we may not have your size.  So far, we've managed to put something on everyone, but not always the best.  Please contact us in advance of a class in case you are not of normal size or you think you'll need a custom wetsuit.

They may cost more, but we can do private classes for all our courses. Click Here to read more.

You will receive the classroom instruction from a set of DVD/CD Roms ( SDI, NAUI & PADI - see below ) or Online (SDI) at your home, and at your pace. The Online course and the DVD/CD Roms are well produced, well structured, and very informative learning tools.  They are excellent alternatives to multiple day or evening lectures. You would complete the SDI Online course or all SDI, NAUI or PADI Knowledge Reviews on the DVD/CD Rom (to include understanding the RDP table), before taking the confined and open water dives with a highly qualified Scuba Instructor. During the 'wet' part of the course, all the academics you learned will be reinforced, and some new things taught that are not in the books...

Not always, but typically, the 'wet' part takes 3 days, which includes the pool day, then 2 days of diving (4 or 5 dives). Usually we start real early and finish around noon or early afternoon, giving you time to relax or go see Orlando. Sometimes it is necessary to scuba dive for more than 2 or 3 days because of difficulty learning or weather issues. It is rare, but we will dive extra days to get you properly certified, and no charge. That is our mission. Although our days in the water are few, the time we spend in the water is always long. Typically, we are the first to arrive at the springs & lake dive sites, and the last to leave.  We are not planning to change that.

If you take the academics and pool session in your hometown, common for out of towners, you can come to Florida to finish your course. This is called a referral. Click here for information on that program. This is common in the winter months since we dive year round in Florida, and our springs are 72F/22C year round.

An added bonus for taking classes from us is a reduced price for rental gear (ie: BCD, Regs, wetsuits), for any student alumni.  This does not include the basic gear, ie: mask, fins, booties, snorkel that every certified diver should own.

Typical 3 Day Schedule

You arrive to Orlando Florida, having completed the Knowledge (academics) reviews from the DVD kit.    We meet the afternoon prior to classes to get the gear ready and go to pool. The last two days start early, but finish just after noon.
Day 1) Test review & test (if not yet completed).  Confined water sessions to cover the skills
Day 2)
If necessary, we finish the confined water sessions, then two or three open water dives at a nearby lake (summer) or spring (winter).
Day 3) After a good night's sleep, you get up real early and then head off to a nearby lake or spring to finish off the last of the four open water dives. On occasion, our last day is off a boat in the ocean, usually Boynton Beach or West Palm Beach.

Dive Calendar

Most of our classes are planned around your visit or available time off, so are not listed on our calendar.  However, we do schedule some non-private classes. Click on the calendar at right for those dates and upcoming dive trips.. Dive Calendar for Dayo Scuba, Orlando, Florida

We do our classes all days of the week;  weekends and/or week day mornings.

We conduct our training with the assumption that you want to be there, and that you want to be a safe and good diver.  We spend extra time with you to help make you a better diver. Once the class is successfully completed, you join the ranks of Certified Divers.

GEAR:   You can own your mask, fins, booties and snorkel, and if so, this allows you to train and get use to it during the class.  However, if you don't wish to purchase that gear until you learn what might work best for you, or traveling to Orlando, just use our gear. We've got plenty of training equipment.  We do not recommend you buy the 'big' items, ie: scuba vest (BCD), tanks, weights and regulators until after the class.  We do sell gear and we can certainly help recommend the best for you (with great discounts) .
